My first child on the mission! (They call it child when you train) |
Crazy week opening up the area here and doing lots of stuff actually. I first got to Londrina and stayed in my first area to sleep that night (with Elder Carrell, one of my favorite missionaries) and got to go out and visit a bunch of people that I had been teaching when I was first there. I was speaking the language finally so they got to actually have a real convo with me. It was pretty fun. But they got tons of food and were super excited but upset I didn't tell them sooner to plan a BBQ (Churrasco) with them. But the next day, got my companion! I am going to be training an American! He doesn't speak any of the language and it brought me back to my training days. His name is Elder Jones. He is from New York and lived on an Indian reservation there. I thought that was pretty cool. He is 21 years old too, so we can relate a little more on that side of things. He is doing awesome and progressing really fast! I love being able to help him.
Your questions that you had asked...
-Yes I would love those CTR bands. I don't need a TON but it would be awesome to have. And sadly to say, I don't know where to send this next package. None of the members live anywhere close to us. SO I am thinking one more to the mission home. I hope they don't get upset.... haha. But the thing is, the packages you send never have problems. Other missionaries have had problems with it and had to pay a 100 real tax. Who knows why...
-Chocolate chips, basically don't exist here. You just use a chocolate bar. No need to send! and we bought that pizza. Pizza is only about 10 dollars for a drink and a pizza, that is really good, so we just went for it to celebrate! haha. And it's always fun to celebrate baptisms. haha.
Stories first, then I will tell you about our area...
1. SO in Garça, I got home the last night there (Monday) after being really sad saying bye to all the wonderful members there. We got there turned on the light, and there was a GIANT bat in our house! Holy crap that scared me so much. It was probably looking for its kid that we had in the back that died, and my comp scooped it up and threw it out. But it was in our house! That was super scary. My comp Elder C Azevedo had no fear and ran at it and kicked it out of the house. I guess it's more of a normal thing for him. But the bat started crawling at me like the grudge! It was a really funny moment. I will have to explain more in words at home after the mission.
2. So I guess I just have a problem with giant animals here. We got to our house and it is a great house. It had lots of bugs though. The very first day studying this giant moth flew in to the house which I had thought was another bat because it flew like a bat! It was HUGE though and I had a little battle with it. That would have been fun for you to watch. It was about the size of a fully stretched open hand. That was not no ordinary moth.
3. One more funny thing with animals, we have a giant gecko living in our kitchen. A lot bigger than the ones in Hawaii and it got me laughing about Deanna and how she was super scared of those. She would die with this one here. It got me giggling to be honest. haha.
4. My companion and I were studying to prepare to teach his first lesson, or part of the lesson. He took the very first part of the lesson to study and had it down pretty well. We found a lady to teach that wanted to hear our message and she was about 30 years old with a 2 year old kid. This is where it got good. The lady invited us in and we went, got to know here and then asked if we could share this message with here. It was my comps first lesson ever. We said the prayer and after, he was to start. The lady, then decided apparently that it was appropriate to breast feed, and my companion just had terror in his eyes. He tried so hard to spit out the words and I was holding in from laughing so hard! I died laughing after the lesson. It's just normal here now that people do that, but still a little weird at the same time! haha.
So about my area. A really small town. The branch just started 2 years ago and only has 38 members going every week. I will be completely honest, I was complaining to myself a little bit when I got here. But I got proved wrong. The members are WONDERFUL!. They are all here ready to help and super excited to have missionaries again here in the area. The last time they had missionaries was 4 months ago when president found out they were slacking off and were transferred really fast. But the president of the branch is really glad we aren't here to slack. The members are really strong here. They also meet in a house at the moment with a made pulpit and everything. It's really cool. But I just love the people here already.
One of the members gave a talk on missionary work, talking about how much we sacrifice. It made me think so much. But one thing he said that really hit me was how much my family is sacrificing. I am so grateful for all you are sacrificing for me, and all that you do for me. I got over 20 letters and my package this week and just was so grateful for the love and even from people in the ward at home. I am so very grateful. People were also jealous of the fact I got so many letters and such cool stuff in my package. I am gonna unwrap the stuff you gave me tomorrow in the wrapping paper, even though I know what they are already. And I am thinking that I am gonna go out to eat with my comp, and treat him too. Just to celebrate. I am super excited. He also has no money right now, because he accidently left his card in Londrina. haha. But it's all good. It will all work out in the end.
Everything is going great here, a little tough but wonderful! I am working my hardest to open this area and have success in growing this branch. The people are great, branch is wonderful, and I just can't believe how blessed I am . I also had a wonderful experience from the moment I got here. I didn't understand perfectly everything when I was in Garça, working there. I got that calling to train and was super nervous it would be an American because of the fact I couldn't understand perfectly. After we got our companions, I just felt something different, and looking back it was a different feeling of the Holy Ghost blessing me to understand better. I now can understand literally EVERYTHING people say here. I could not believe it. But the blessings here are wonderful, and I wouldn't trade them for anything else. I am so grateful for the chance I have to serve this mission, and it is growing my testimony every moment of everyday, with the miracles I see, and the spirit I get to feel. I know this church is the only true church on the earth, and I have a testimony of that without a doubt in my mind.
I love you all and take care. I love hearing about all the stuff at home. It is so great to have such wonderful people supporting me when I look at other missionary families who the family aren't even members. Thank you for all you do.
Te-amo!
